Back to School Swag

All week I kept hearing on the radio Power 96.5 FM was doing this Major Charity event.  I wasn’t going to let the fact that I’m new to the city stop me from exploring it. So with me being all about giving back I decided to grab my new Kodak Camera  which I’m still learning to use, a pen and my tablet and help out. Since I’m a social butterfly anyway it wouldn’t be a problem! Not going to Lie I was a little nervous going to a place with a camera a pen and a tablet.  People may not be receptive to this. Especially in a smaller town so I was a little on edge going in, but I really wanted to help the best way that I knew how.
The event was held a Royal Scot Bowling Alley. The event was filled with MSU Alumni, tons of kids, parents and just people pulling together to give back to the Community. The event was the Kick off of the Month long back to school giveaway. Hosted by Power 96.5 FM, Turning Point Lansing, New world Flood and 496 Car Club.

When I first walked in think I felt as less in my own mind a few  people gave me that look like…where is her kid and why do she have a camera……but after I walked right pass those people with a big smile and a quick nod, The people where really open to any publicity! Hey it was for the kids.
Pam levy of Power 96.5 pamlevy@power965fe.com  was the first person I met, Cool low Key and straight forward like boss lady status she was ducked off in the back when I saw her. Chatting it up with colleagues, I introduced myself and we talked for a minute and she told me what it was. That this was actually a fundraiser to help get the kids all the items for the inside of their bags. That there was a going to be a Cuts for kids next week and later a back pack giving away Aug 29th at the Lansing mall starting at 4pm. Also that whole event had started two years ago and this year the Radio Station had partnered with Turning Point Lansing, New World Flood, and 496 Car Club. Before leaving her I Asked her how should I go about this and she told me that I should partner up with the photographer, who I couldn’t keep up with at all. I cant remember his name because he was defiantly running circles around me, but was more than helpful. But I quickly returned to my interviewing so I could be in my element.

Power 96.5 FM was strong in the Building. Lovell Blend (account executive), Don Black (Program director) as well as the newbie 6-10 Morning lady http://twitter.com/AshMoton Ashley Moton. All in the building Don Black had a lot to say and was cool to talk to. We went from the event to internships and everything in between. You could tell Don was the life of the party in his day and was a fun Program director.
His over all message was to promote All listeners to give back, inspires the youth to put there education first and to keep pushing towards their goals he pointed out that Power 96.5 FM is always looking for hot talent for internships and  potential jobs and all that information can be found on  www.power965fm.com Which is how Ashley Moton go her start about Six months ago. You go girl!!!  Lovell Blend from Power 96.com FM said, “That the fundraiser is to give back to the kids and the parents.  I’m a parent and so are majority of my colleagues. We know that back to school shopping can be hard and sometimes a struggles. We are trying to help the best way we can.   We are just trying to take a little bite of the pressure away even if only for a short while.    Held elder Nathan Lake Jr., Brandon Edmonds, Heather and David Thomas where all representing there Organizations Turning Point of Lansing, 496 Car Club, and New World Flood

In the building were some MSU alumni, one of which was Todd Duckett. Who can be followed at http://twitter.com/DuckDeez  Todd is an American football running back who is currently a free agent. He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons 18th overall in the 2002 NFL Draft. He played college football at Michigan State. Duckett has also played for the Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks. Todd, when I interviewed Todd he was super laid back as well, with his stunner shades on as he chilled with his family. He said I just want to let people know that, we can only do it if we all pull together. He was contacted through New World Flood to be apart of the event.
